This beautiful original dealer showroom banner would most likely have been used in 1958 when the “NEW WORLD OF POWER” was introduced to replace previously produced models of International Harvester farm tractors. The 460, 560 and 660 tractors were the first farm tractors IH produced with 6 cylinder rather than 4 cylinder gasoline or Diesel engines. I bought this gem 18 years ago from an IH collector in Alberta Canada. I don’t know if this showroom banner was used in Canada only or if it was used in other counties too. The cloth part of this banner measures 36″ wide by about 56″ high. Since it is still in pristine original condition, this banner appears to never have been used. Since it was rolled up for over 60 years, there is however some very minor cracking of the ink or paint as you can see most readily see in the last photo of this listing that is a closeup of the 460 medallion. This is a very minor issue that does not appreciably detract from the value or display quality of this item. I was born in 1952 and raised on a ranch in north central Montana. The first tractor I can remember Dad having was a 660 he bought new in 1958. I can recall thinking it was a real beauty with it’s bright red paint that was highlighted with white in a few places. The bright zinc or cadmium plated front and rear wheel rims added the finishing touch to that gorgeous machine. I can remember riding with him on it only once or maybe twice. There was no real safe place for me to ride so Mom insisted that I not ride on a tractor until Dad bought a new 806 in 1964. It had the scarce mechanical front wheel assist option as well as a Meade cab. That cab had the door on the left front corner so it would have been very unlikely any young passenger would fall out of it.
